About the Role

Are you ready to kickstart your career with some real-world experience? Join BDO (NTH QLD) as a Vacationer during your Uni holidays! Our short-term Vacation Program is your ticket to exploring different service lines and teams, giving you a sneak peek into the awesome career paths we offer. 

Experience activities such as service line rotations and ‘A Day in the Life’ workshops. You will be immersed into the culture of our Cairns office, participating in learning and development and the many social aspects of the firm, a few of which include health, wellness, and community giving activities. You will have access to Partners and Managers and will be supported by dedicated buddies. The Vacation program can lead to Undergraduate and Graduate roles within BDO (NTH QLD) and is the perfect way to get your foot in the door.  

We are seeking students who are interested in joining our Vacation Program in November/December 2025. Recognizing that some university schedules may extend beyond December, we are open to discussing an alternative date range with those specific applicants.  

About You

We are excited to welcome students to our 2025 Summer Vacation Program. Our ideal candidates have the following qualifications and attributes: 

  • You’re currently studying a relevant qualification, such as a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), Bachelor of Commerce, or similar. Alternatively, you may have a Bachelor degree in another discipline and have a keen interest or practical experience in accounting. 
  • You’re tech-savvy with experience in Microsoft Office applications and are quick to adapt to new technologies 
  • You are eager to learn, curious and inquisitive, making the most of this learning opportunity 
  • You have an energetic approach to your work and thrive in a collaborative environment 
  • You’re confident in your communication and have excellent interpersonal skills  
  • You possess a sharp attention to detail, maintain excellent organisation, and consistently demonstrate professionalism

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
