6.30 AM

My alarm goes off and I start getting ready for work, as a morning person this doesn’t prove to be too difficult once the body clock has adjusted. I walk to the local train station which, provided it isn’t raining, is nice to get some fresh air. It usually takes me about 30 mins to get to work.

8.00 AM - 9.00 AM

I generally arrive at the office at 8am but that can change depending on what I have on. At NAB we flexi-desk so I collect my belongings from my locker and choose where I would like to sit as long as it close by my team. Once I am all set up I start the day by checking my emails and looking at my calendar to prepare for the day ahead.

NAB Graduate using a work locker

9.30 AM - 10.00 AM

I am currently working on a customer journeys project specifically to do with business transaction accounts. First stop is a 15 minute stand up with the design team to quickly catch up and ensure we know where everyone is at. The team will cover what we did yesterday, what we aim to achieve today and if there is anything blocking us. Next stop is a 15 minutes stand up with the developers also covering the same details to ensure we are all on track to achieve our sprint goals.

NAB Graduate in a meeting

10.00 AM - 11.00 AM

Next up is a meeting with business key stakeholders to ensure the changes we are making in the projects are agreed on and we cover all angles.

After the meeting, when time permits I will summarise any notes to make sure everything is clear, and if any other questions come up or I need to meet with others I will arrange to do so while it is fresh in my mind.

11.00 AM - 12.00 PM

The hour before lunch I will dedicate to an online course that I am currently doing called Breakthrough at NAB, the course is for 12 weeks and a module is released each week. This challenges my thinking and allows time for me to reflect and think about areas of improvement and what I would like to further develop. It isn’t often I sit back and self-reflect therefore having dedicated time to do so has been quite refreshing.

NAB Graduate at her desk

12.00 PM - 1.00 PM

Time for lunch!! I am trying to be good at saving money so I bring lunch from home, however, on the days I don’t I will go to a local café and grab some lunch. If it is a good day it is nice to go sit on the rooftop or go for a walk, get some fresh air and do some exercise.

1.00 PM - 2.00 PM

This time is normally allocated to some work at my desk, writing user stories. User stories are a form of requirement writing to make sure what is needed of the developers is clearly communicated and they are able to pick up the job and know exactly what we are looking for.

2.00 PM - 3.00 PM

Now I am off to meet with our senior change analyst to discuss the change impacts of the project initiatives. This is important to identify how the changes being made by the project will impact our customers and the business, who do the changes need to be communicated to and how we can ensure it runs as smoothly as possible.

NAB graduate in the office

3.30 PM - 4.30 PM

Next stop logistics team meeting. Each year the graduates organise a major fundraiser event which raises money for a local charity as voted on by the wider grad cohort. This year it is for Guide Dogs Victoria. I am part of the logistics committee and we are involved in arranging the on the night running, decorations, venue, catering, entertainment and date. The aim is to check in with everyone on their tasks and check what we have left to cover to ensure the event goes well and we raise as much money as possible.

4.30 PM - 5.00 PM

Before you know it, it's home time! I will finalise any notes I need to, have a quick glance over what is planned for tomorrow and pack up and head home for the day. Quite often there are team drinks or graduate cohort social activities which is always fun but tonight I am off to pilates and then my parents’ house for dinner. Love it when I don’t have to decide what to cook!
