Culture at Westpac Group

9.1
9.1 rating for Culture, based on 18 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Overall, culture is good. Heavy drinking culture after hours though (pubs etc, expectation is that you are there to socialise). In office, collegial and collaborative. Hierarchy depends on area but usually good cooperation despite. There is a sense of comradery about the challenges.

In the office is great. Very cooperative and someone is always happy to get a coffee with you. After hours there are occasionally team events but rare. Friday drinks occur but are rare. Very dependant on which team you're in.

Poor wfh culture, however in office very positive when people come in

Big focus on teamwork and valuing the opinion and contributions of all team members (even grads!), focus on diversity and inclusion, focus on continuous personal development, mixed age teams but always up for social events, freidnly, super supportive, fun/genuine people

Strong culture within my current team that encourages shared conversations and insights from all. We are actively encouraged by management to take ownership on initiatives and put our best foot forward, without being micro-managed. Management also create support systems that allow us to ask for help or guidance, and even take ideas to forums for a diverse discussion on concepts. External culture builds on this, with social events encouraged to build stronger networks within the team.

Outstanding. In hours is highly inclusive, diversity is valued and transparency in decision making is strong. Teams are engaged and focused, with clear avenues to raise concerns if needed. Hierarchy is not stagnant, leaders are humans rather then figureheads. After hours - everyone is genuine and honest, same as in hours.

Everyone is very open and willing to talk to a Grad. There is quite a flat structure - no sense of hierarchy. Of course, there are more senior people, but they don't make it obvious and are willing to teach others. When it comes to hours: I have noticed a lot of people willingly work overtime, but this is not encouraged by your manager.

Very friendly, everyone helps each other, hierarchy is sound and effective.

No hierarchy, everyone very friendly and supportive

Culture differs between business areas, hierachies are not rigid constructs with most teams having a more flat approach to seniority.

culture is friendly and supportive. Teams are generally social, and collaboration and teamwork is central to all the teams I've rotated through. They dissuade you from working late, but there are some instances where you may need to stay back a bit because I work in Projects. Although, I have never been asked to work on a weekend, and they encourage you to 'balance out' the hours if you ever work late.
