The not-so-good bits: There are definite limitations as far as some of the senior management is concerned in Europe.

The SLR story

SLR has been advising clients for over 25 years at every point of their project life-cycle. Starting as a UK business, we now operate as a global company with more than 1800 people delivering client solutions across five regions. We have grown both organically and through welcoming other like-minded businesses with a similar 'one team' culture into the SLR group. We are ably supported by our principal investor, Charterhouse Capital Partners, and will continue to build a balanced, successful, and growing business.

Culture & vibe

To help with the development of our business and the central role culture plays in that, we use the 5Bs to describe our culture and explain what we mean by “one team”. This means we have clear expectations of behavior; a framework for development discussions and fair rewards; guidance on building a successful career; and consistent messaging on our unique and special employee offering. We are also able to sustain our culture as we grow.

We believe that, just as in the natural world, diversity brings strength and resilience. We recognize that people from all backgrounds with unique experiences, perspectives, and viewpoints are essential to our success. We will continue to foster a culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our employees. It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to our clients and the communities we serve.

Treating people fairly is part of the DNA of SLR, but we are not complacent and understand that we need to play our part in removing barriers. At SLR, we do not think about equality as treating everyone the same, instead, we know that all people have individual needs, and what is valuable to one person is not necessarily to another. This is equity and taking equity seriously means being vigilant about noticing and understanding micro-inequities and unconscious bias, and taking action to redress the imbalance.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, and appreciated. We recognize that inclusion is a source of strength for the company and is valued as qualities that enrich the environment in which we work. Everyone knows what it feels like to be excluded or included and the impact it has on a person’s wellbeing and productivity. At SLR, we encourage transparent, open, and honest communication.

SLR Consulting

SLR has signed up to the United Nations Climate Neutral Now pledge and has committed to reducing SLR’s operational GHG emissions to a climate-neutral position by 2030. In addition to this commitment, SLR has also signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) Business Ambition for 1.5°C. This commits SLR to measure its full value chain emissions, both upstream and downstream of our operations, and set a Net-Zero target within the next 2 years, in line with what climate science says is necessary to keep warming below 1.5°C.

Alongside our targets for continual improvement, we encourage our employees to identify quick-win opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of our activities and offices, and we run initiatives to share these ideas and implement them in our other locations.

In many ways, our greatest contribution to the environment is achieved through the advice we provide to our clients. As environmental consultants, our core activities are focused on resource efficiency, waste minimization, renewable energy, managing environmental impacts, and the provision of sympathetic landscape design & development.

We strive to contribute to the prosperity of the communities in which we work. To achieve this, we encourage our people and teams to connect with their local and professional communities and to contribute positively to these. This is supported by corporate sponsorship and charity donations, with decisions on how these are allocated and shared being driven by our employees in each office.
