Why choose nbn?

nbn is the team behind the design, build and operation of the nbn™ broadband access network. Working for nbn, you'll be part of one of the largest technology infrastructure projects Australia has seen providing you with lots of opportunities, great flexibility, and collaborative culture. Building the access network is just the beginning; we are looking for future leaders like you who will run the access network and help deliver a world-class customer experience for our partners and end-users. You'll work with inspirational leaders and innovators in their field, take on engaging and exciting work, and seek imaginative solutions to new questions every day.

We are dedicated to helping provide Australians with access to the benefits of fast broadband. But the nbn™ access network is so much more than access to fast internet. A state-of-the-art communications access network can help to open up a world of possibilities in areas such as education, business, innovation, healthcare, flexibility, and entertainment. It will help ensure our digital future and is designed to give Australians the opportunity to be productive, creative, efficient and connected – benefits we can hope to enjoy for decades to come.

At nbn, we look to all our team members to display traits including integrity, inclusivity, collaboration, innovation and passion. Working for nbn, you'll be part of the team who are providing Australia with the infrastructure needs to help to compete in a fast-paced global marketplace. Recognising that Australians are entitled to access to fast speed internet, you'll be helping to open up opportunities for our fellow regional Australians as we continue to help bridge the digital divide.

Recruitment Process

The nbn graduate recruitment journey is a step-by-step process to allow you to get to know our organisation and understand the Graduate Program in more depth. The process is also designed to ensure that we effectively identify, match and understand your knowledge, skills and capabilities.

1. Online application

Applicants will need to apply online for the 2023 Graduate Program. Before you begin your application, ensure that you have your resume and academic transcript available. The application form asks you for several written responses, most importantly, why you would like to work for nbn. You will be asked to select the business unit preference relevant to your degree.

2. Online assessment

Successful applicants will be invited to complete an online cognitive assessment. This can be completed at home or wherever you can log in online.

3. Digital interview

Next, you will be asked to complete a digital interview where we are keen to learn more about you, your experiences and motivation. Successful candidates will then be invited to attend an assessment centre.

4. Assessment Centre

This is an opportunity to learn more about nbn; discover the opportunities available to you as an nbn graduate, and hear from our grads – current and alumni - about their experience on the Graduate Program. Be prepared to demonstrate your skills through working with other candidates in group activities and presentations. As part of the assessment centre day, you will be invited to interview with business leaders to expand on your experience and demonstrate key competencies and behaviours.

5. Offer

Successful candidates will progress to background checks and if satisfactory, we will present you with an offer of employment confirming your placement in our Graduate Program! We will stay in contact with you up until your start date.

To be eligible for the nbn™ Graduate Program you:

Remuneration & Career Growth

As a graduate, you will participate in custom-designed workshops and benefit from a tailored learning and development program specifically designed to support your on-the-job learning and path to becoming a future leader.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Great support network and system especially for grads. Good self and professional development pathways. Supportive and friendly teams and leaders. Good connections with other grads.
  • The Graduate Program is fantastic. I am provided with plenty of support and everyone wants to see me succeed. I am involved in a variety of tasks and really enjoy the work I do. There is a strong focus on continuous learning and professional development.
  • There are a lot of opportunities to get involved with lots of different work. It's a very diverse workplace in all senses which is great. The company really values graduate opinions.
  • Working on meaningful projects within a highly engaged and motivated business.
  • Flexible working arrangements: nbn is very much so a company that values work-life balance and the flexible working arrangements in terms of hours and location of work (e.g. the ability to work from home) reflects that. Managers, in my experience, have been very supportive of this as well and trust that I will complete my work even if I'm not physically in the office. Great support network: I've been fortunate enough to have great mentors and managers along the way of my graduate journey that have given me invaluable support and advice in terms of stepping into the corporate world and kick-starting my career.
  • A minus could be that things can change very quickly, so you need to be able to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Employee benefit can be improved.
  • High amount of contractors compared to full-time employees, which creates a small divide between individuals' motives and priorities when delivering value.
  • Lack of internal alignment and consolidation on ideas and work.
  • Too many meetings.

What’s the takeaway from my story? That not everything is simple and sometimes the path that we end up taking isn’t the one we had in mind, but the one that is presented to us.
