Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders at nbn

nbn’s vision for reconciliation is to be deeply engaged and connected with First Peoples’ cultures and aspirations for digital inclusion.

At nbn, we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People as the custodians of the lands and waters throughout Australia and their continuing connection to Country.

We understand the importance of working together with First Nations people to improve their digital capability and discover how it can benefit society and the economy by providing reliable broadband access and digital inclusion. We've partnered with Reconciliation Australia to develop the nbn Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2023-2026. Our goal is to bring people together and celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples by incorporating their recognition and respect into everything we do.

Our team has created a welcoming community called Liakukana (“lee-ah-kooh-kâh-nah”). It's led by our employees and brings together First Peoples representatives and diverse members who share a common goal - to achieve our Reconciliation Action Plan. This plan is about improving community engagement and finding innovative ways to ensure First Peoples communities have access to the nbn® network.

We believe in creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. That's why we introduced our Reconciliation Awareness eLearning modules, which will help us all better understand each other's cultures. We're also committed to supporting our First Peoples employees through mentoring opportunities and a dedicated employee assist line. And to make sure everyone stays safe online, we're working hard to promote cyber safety awareness and education within First Peoples communities.

We're proud to be a company that values diversity and cultural understanding.
